Happy Mother’s Day
We recieved this beautiful letter from a mother to her daughter:
“My dear girl, the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I am going through. If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say “You said the same thing a minute ago” Just listen —please. Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep. When I don’t want to take a bath, don’t be mad and don’t embarrass me. Remember when I had to run after you making excuses and trying to get you to take a bath when you were just a little girl? When you see how ignorant I am when it comes to new technology, give me the time to learn and don’t look at me that way…remember honey, I patiently taught you how to do many things like getting dressed, combing your hair, tying your shoes and dealing with life’s issues every day…The day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all try to understand what I’m going through. If occasionally I lose track of what we are t talking about, give me the time to remember and If I can’t, don’t be nervous impatient or arrogant. I just know in my heart that the most import thing for me is to be with you. And when my old tired legs don’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way I offered mine to you when you first walked. When those days come, don’t feel sad…just be with me and understand me with love. When I get to the end of my life I will cherish and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared. With a big smile and the huge love I’ve always had for you, I just want to say, I love you…my darling daughter.”
Happy Mother’s Day!

Health & Fitness Fair @ Oceanview Senior Living

| 10:00 am | to | 2:00 pm |
Oceanview Senior Living and Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will host a Health & Fitness Fair, to be held at Oceanview Senior Living on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 10 am to 2 pm.
On this day, Oceanview, RSVP and Samaritan Pacific Health Services will join with many other health and fitness representatives to help promote active, healthy lifestyles through physical fitness, good nutrition and preventive care. According to Joyce Atchley, Lifestyle Director for Oceanview “Our health and fitness fair is a wonderful opportunity for seniors to make, renew, and revitalize their commitment to live healthier lives through better health and fitness.”
This celebration of seniors sponsored by Samaritan Pacific Health Services and Samaritan Health Plans is free of charge and open to the public. The festivities will include; a Free Healthy Fare Luncheon Buffet, Free Commemorative T-Shirts, Free Drawings for Prizes, a Vitals Clinic, Wii Bowling, Putting Green, Therapeutic Massages, Bone Density and Lung Health Screenings, many Demonstrations and Classes on; Zumba, Stretch & Flex, Tai Chi, Qigong and Arthritis Exercises.
Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital will be offering the free health screenings and The Oregon Coast Community College Nursing Program will host the free vitals clinic.
Numerous health, fitness and medical representatives will have; booth displays, free information and take away gifts as well as answer any questions you may have.
This event is totally free of charge and open to the public. However, donations to RSVP are greatly appreciated. RSVP of Lincoln County has been instrumental in fulfilling the sometimes desperate needs of many people.
RSVP works with older adults; using the skills they have developed over their lifetime, to help their fellow citizens. Currently there are over 350 active volunteers in locations from Rose Lodge to Yachats. Their contribution is tremendous: they distribute food to low-income families, assist patients and their families in two area hospitals, work with hospice, advocate for children through Court Appointed Special Advocates, read with children in schools, cook and serve meals at community centers, and deliver meals to homebound seniors.
Additionally, RSVP manages five health-related programs for seniors and low-income people: The Grab Bar Program supplies free durable equipment; the Medicare Team helps seniors navigate a complex and often frustrating system; the Prescription Assistance Team helps find free or reduced cost prescriptions; The Friendly Visitor Program provides companionship to socially isolated seniors; and the Trans-Med program transports seniors to their medical appointments. All of these programs make up RSVP’s Healthy Senior Independent Living Project.
RSVP remains a lifeline to those in need and continues to advance its goals of senior advocacy, services, and community involvement.
The fair will also feature a fund raising 50/50 raffle for RSVP.
