Senior Housing Pricing

assistedliving

Assisted Living may be more affordable than you think.  We at Choice Senior Services are out in the community all the time; helping to educate people about their living options and our senior housing referral service.  On question that has come up a lot lately is the upfront expense is too high.  While there are certain communities, most of which are Continuing Care Retirement Communities, that do require an initial “buy-in”.  There are a few communities that are not CCRC’s that charge a larger down payment.  For the most part, move-in fees are not as high as a typical CCRC.  For most senior living communities, the initial move-in costs are limited to $300 to $3,000 dollars, most on the lower side.  In fact, there are a number of retirement living and assisted living communities that are offering move-in specials where the fees are waived. Monthly costs depend on the type of housing you are interested in as well as the area of town you are looking at.  The cost of retirement/independent housing options start around $1,600 per month, assisted living ranges from $2,800 to $3,500 per month plus care costs, memory care communities generally start around $4,000 per month.

There have been a number of communities offering $3,000 of incentives for new residents.  With over 150 senior housing communities in Portland, Oregon area there may be one perfect for you.  Call Choice Senior Services to speak with one of our Elder Care Advisors for more information about the senior housing options available to you, current discounts, and incentives available at Oregon senior housing facilities.

Press Release from Pegasus Social Services

Pegasus Social Services would like to announce the following news:

First, Pegasus Social Services has some good news for your client. As we strive to meet your clients’ needs for quality of life activities, we have purchased annual membership passes to both OMSI and the Oregon Zoo. This means your client gets in free during their social outings with Pegasus.

So instead of just taking your client to a park or restaurant, we now have other options available. Passes are for admission only though. If the client wants to do anything extra, such as attend a special exhibit at OMSI or ride the train at the zoo, they will be charged the standard rate at each place.

Please let us know by email or phone call if you would like your client to participate in outings to OMSI or the Zoo.

Second, Niki Tucker has been hired as Director of Client Care. And by client care, we don’t mean your client, we mean you. She will serve as a liaison between our case workers (formerly escorts) and you. If there is a problem that occurs during an outing, she will let you know. If you have concerns about your client or their outings that you would like us to know about, feel free to contact her. Scheduling and arranging outings will still continue through Taylor or Jenny.

Third, with the addition of Niki to our team, we now have a licensed social worker and experienced care manager on staff. We have expanded our services to include care management and monthly care monitoring. Please contact us for more information about this or you can go to the care management website at www.paladinadvocates.org

We look forward to continuing to work with you and provide quality services for you and your client.

Sincerely,

Niki Tucker, LMSW, NCG, Director of Client Care

Cy Osborne, BS, Director of Financial Administration

Jenny Cowdin, General Manager

5 Things People Do That Ruin Their Retirement Savings

The Today’s show ran a segment on things we do that ruin our retirement savings.   They stated that the number one thing we do that ruins our retirement savings is to do nothing as far as saving money.  We see this every day at Choice Senior Services, LLC.  A failure to plan includes simply planning on living off of social security.  Social Security only goes so far in today’s economy with the average person receiving approximately one thousand dollars per month.  With the cost of prescriptions, health care, and senior housing costs add up.  Retirement is a time to enjoy life – and it is possible with a little planning and savings.  It is never too late to start planning for retirement.  Enjoy the Todays Show on Retirement Tips secgment and start planning today.
